Block Party
Close the street, fire up the grill, throw some Old Styles in the cooler. It’s block party day.
Synopsis
Julian hates the block party. He has ever since 1996. That was the year he had an epic falling out with his dad, started a decades long rift with his sister, and was dumped by his one true love, Melissa, all on a single day.
Thirty years later, when his difficult father dies suddenly, Julian, now fifty and divorced, comes home to Chicago planning to sell the house and skip town, until the neighbors press him into organizing the party in his father’s place. He runs into Melissa in the alley and she offers to team up. Sparks fly, except she’s engaged to a scheming realtor named Iggy.
On block party day everything goes wrong: the grill catches fire, the water balloon fight gets personal, and there’s a five kid pile-up on the waterslide. Julian must race to satisfy the skeptical neighbors, defeat Iggy in a heated game of one-on-one, make peace with his sister, and win back Melissa, all before the glow foam dance party.
Block Party is a sunsoaked summer romantic comedy, about a beloved summer tradition, set to a nineties alt rock soundtrack, and shot in Chicago’s historic neighborhood of Edgewater Glen.
